Thomas Cook and SOTC Have Shared The Travel Demand In The Upcoming Long Weekends

Mr. Indiver Rastogi is the President & Group Head of Global Business Travel, Thomas Cook (India), and SOTC Travel and he shared some insights about the travel demand. In a recent statement, he shared how there is a 3X travel demand for the next few extended weekends in April. There are so many festivals in this month such as Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, Ambedkar Jayanti, and Eid al-Fitr. In comparison to the long weekends in the past three months of 2023, there has been a huge increase in travel in April. From travelling with families to friends, couples, millennials, and young people are mostly opting to explore at this time.

With such a rise in demand for travel, flight ticket prices saw a surge as well. In comparison to March 2023, the flight fares from places such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru to Chandigarh, Srinagar, Dehradun, Kochi, Goa, and Port Blair are seeing a huge spike. The cost of tickets has increased by 20 to 60 per cent.

Not just travelling to new destinations, people staying away from their homes are not returning back to their families. There has been a 5 to 8 per cent increase for metro business routes.

When it comes to travelling foreign destinations, the cost of travel to destinations like Zurich, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, and London is increasing by 40 to 50 per cent. The fares are seeing a rise of 20 to 25 per cent for New York.

Rajeev Kale, the President & Country Head of Thomas Cook (India) Limited shared some destinations that are seeing a major demand for long weekends. Within India, the most in-demand places are Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Leh, North East, Kerala, Goa and Andamans. And for international travel, the places are the Maldives, Mauritius, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al-Khaimah.

Daniel D’Souza, the President & Country Head of SOTC Travel shared some destinations that are seeing major demand. Travellers are willing to travel to cold places such as Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Leh-Ladakh, and the North East. Beach lovers are preferring Andaman and Goa. Also, adventure travel and spiritual tourism seeing a demand.
