As the long weekend of Eid approaches, Indian travellers choose international destinations. One such destination is the Maldives. This pristine destination is becoming the top global tourist destination for Indians. However, Singapore based holidaymakers are excited to experience freshly opened borders with adjacent Malaysia.

Why Indians Prefer the Maldives For Eid Travel

Indian tourists prefer warmer temperatures according to the booking data of digital travel platform Agoda.  The Maldives is leading the list of overseas locations for the Eid travel. Thailand and the United Arab Emirates are other popular choices. Thailand and Singapore are the most popular holiday destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, with Thailand topping the list of countries with the most visitors over the holiday season. After Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines round up the top five. Both Malaysia and Indonesia have emerged as strong contenders for the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid.

Festival Travel Choice in 2019 to 2022

On comparing the booking data from the digital travel platform Agoda for the holidays in 2019, the top ten destinations for each country changed. For example, Japan was a popular travel destination in most of the world’s major markets in 2019. However, due to the country’s closure to visitors, Japan has dropped out of the top 10. Furthermore, due to the current border closures, other 2019 hotspots like China and Hong Kong did not make the top ten list this year. It suggests that nations who have eased barriers and opened their doors quickly stand to benefit from the influx of foreign tourists during this era.

Popular tourism destinations include France, Turkey, Germany, and the UAE tops the list of most popular destinations.  Switzerland’s top 10 destinations for all markets, noted for its creamy milky chocolate and breathtaking mountain landscapes.
