In a rare disruption, IndiGo Airlines faced a significant system outage on Saturday, creating widespread chaos and delays at airports across the country. The airline reported a temporary “system slowdown” around 12:30 pm, which affected its website and booking system, leaving passengers stranded at airports and causing long queues at check-in counters.
IndiGo Faces Major System Outage
As a result, passengers were unable to board flights or book tickets, triggering frustration and confusion. The impact was felt nationwide, with travellers reporting longer-than-usual wait times as check-ins ground to a halt, according to Hindustan Times. Social media erupted with complaints as passengers turned to platform X (formerly Twitter) to share their grievances. Rohit Gandhi, one such passenger, posted a video from Kolkata airport showing crowds building up, with the caption: “#Indigo Airlines computer systems have crashed and they have a massive backup at airports.”

For those on the ground, the situation quickly spiralled into frustration, as passengers in various cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru reported similar issues. Many travellers called for intervention from aviation authorities like the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), while others vented their anger over missed flights and disrupted travel plans.
Slowdown Leads To Long Queues And Missed Flights
In an advisory, IndiGo acknowledged the situation, saying, “We are currently experiencing a temporary system slowdown across our network, affecting our website and booking system. As a result, customers may face increased wait times, including slower check-ins and longer queues at the airport.”
They further assured passengers that their airport teams were fully dedicated to assisting and that they were working diligently to resolve the issue. Despite the airline’s assurances, many passengers continued to face delays throughout the afternoon, with some being left in the dark about their flights.
IndiGo, known for being India’s largest and most punctual low-cost carrier, is usually efficient in its operations, so the system outage took many by surprise. The airline did not immediately provide details on what caused the outage, though it is clear that it has impacted thousands of passengers nationwide.
While the airline assured passengers that the issue would be resolved swiftly, it remained unclear how long it would take for normalcy to return. Passengers, meanwhile, are left hoping for a speedy fix, with the disruption likely to cause ripple effects on flight schedules throughout the weekend.
