People flying between Dubai and the UK over the next two weeks are getting a little extra with their journey. And no, it’s not just another meal upgrade. As the Wimbledon season gets underway, Emirates is bringing some of the tournament atmosphere into the cabin, the lounges and even onto gaming screens. From strawberry desserts to live tennis coverage, the airline is leaning heavily into the British summer sporting tradition this year.

Flying To The UK? Emirates Is Turning Flights Into Mini Wimbledon Experiences

Anyone travelling on Emirates flights between Dubai and the UK from 29 June until 12 July will spot one thing appearing again and again on the menu: strawberries. There’s a reason for that, of course. Strawberries and cream are almost as famous as the tennis itself.

Passengers in First Class can expect honey cake paired with strawberry compote and clotted cream. In Business Class and Premium Economy, there’s a strawberry tart with pistachio sauce alongside strawberry yoghurt. Economy passengers aren’t missing out either, with cream cheese mousse topped with strawberry compote making an appearance.

Travellers on board the airline’s A380 aircraft can also stop by the onboard lounge for strawberries and cream or a classic Pimm’s. There will even be themed pastries making the rounds during the tournament period.

Missing The Match Won’t Really Be An Excuse

For plenty of tennis fans, travelling during Wimbledon usually means worrying about scores and missed matches.

This time, Emirates says passengers will be able to keep up with the action live through its inflight entertainment system. Matches will be shown throughout the tournament alongside the usual films, television shows and box sets already available onboard. For many sports fans, that’s probably enough reason to stay awake for a few extra hours during a long flight.

First Class passengers are also receiving limited-edition Wimbledon towels as part of the seasonal experience.

The Tennis Fun Doesn’t Stop Once You Land

Visitors attending Wimbledon can stop by Emirates’ dedicated fan area at the tournament grounds, where there will be photo opportunities, instant giveaways and prize draws.

One lucky winner will even walk away with a holiday package for two to the Maldives. Also on offer are virtual tennis games and competitions for younger visitors and gamers who want to test themselves on digital versions of Emirates-branded courts.

Sport Remains A Big Part Of The Airline’s Playbook

Wimbledon is only one piece of a much bigger sports portfolio for Emirates. The airline already backs events and organisations across football, rugby, cricket, cycling, horse racing and sailing, while maintaining a particularly strong presence in tennis.

That relationship with the sport keeps growing. And for passengers travelling this summer, it means their flight might feel a little more Centre Court than cabin crew announcements.
