IRCTC Stops Non-Vegetarian Food In Bihar’s Bhagalpur From July 4 This ‘Sawan’ Month

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in Bhagalpur in Bihar will stop serving non-vegetarian food on trains from July 4 during the ‘Sawan’ month. Apart from serving pure vegetarian meals on trains, the food will be prepared without onion and garlic. Read on to know more about IRCTC’s temporary change in food rules.

IRCTC To Halt Non-Vegetarian Food During Holy Sawan Month

According to a report by Business Standard, IRCTC won’t be serving any non-vegetarian food on the trains at Bihar’s Bhagalpur from July 4 onwards on account of the ‘Sawan’ month. So, passengers will only be served pure vegetarian food without onion and garlic during this time.

Pankaj Kumar, the Manager of a food stall stated to Business Standard that apart from food made without onion and garlic, even fruits will be served to passengers. He further added that this food rule will be followed throughout the ‘Sawan’ month. And further reiterated the temporary halt of non-vegetarian food during this time. He assures that cleanliness will be taken care of.

Kanwar Yatra Devotees To Travel On These Trains

‘Sawan’ month in the Hindu calendar is also called ‘Shravan’. It’s the 5th month of the Hindu Lunar calendar and also one of the holiest months of the year. Every Monday, a very auspicious time, during the Sawan month, devotees fast and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. The Sawan month is also known to be the time when revered Kanwar is held. Pilgrims gather water from sacred spots and place them in Kanwars or little mud pots.
