Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express runs a policy that has made news and how. A derailment happened near Kanpur, and the price was paid by Tejas, poor Tejas. India’s first semi-high-speed AC train pledged to pay ₹100 for over one-hour delay and ₹250 for over two hours delay. The time has come to collect. On October 19, the train departed at 9.55 AM from Lucknow instead of 6:10 AM. It then departed another two hours late from Delhi for Lucknow.

This total fiasco has costed IRCTC its money and confidence. Its reputation however will need a lot more blows to suffer. If anything, this payout will leave people wishing for delays. Around 450 Lucknow-Delhi passengers will get ₹250 and 500 Delhi-Lucknow passengers can claim ₹100 each. The money can be availed via a link provided with every Tejas Express ticket. The money will come from railway subsidiary funds through insurance companies.

The train has been running on a tight schedule since it was inaugurated on October 6. A mishap this early on in schedules has got everybody talking. It took the pristine railway staff a day to catch up to schedule. We’re excited to see if overall north India services improve to keep this one train on track. If one derailment off direct pathways can cause scope for money burn, we’re hopeful measures will be taken to amp the entire network. Another interesting insurance peculiar to Tejas Express is a cover of ₹1 Lakh against household theft and robbery during travel. This will be a first for people who we’re sure would be delighted.
