A poet, knight, father, and great leader, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum hardly needs any introduction, not just to people in the UAE, but around the world. He is the Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai. Today, on July 15, as the Dubai Royal celebrates his 75th birthday, here’s all you need to know about this magnanimous ruler.

Sheikh Mohammed Celebrates His 75th Birthday

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the third son of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum who was the Ruler of Dubai and Head of the Maktoum Dynasty from 1958 till 1990. Yes, he was born in Al Shindagha, which was where the family home was situated in the year 1949. It’s worth mentioning that Sheikh Mohammed has achieved many firsts, which include being the youngest defence minister at the age of 21. He finished his secondary education in Dubai, after which he studied English in Cambridge, England. Later, the Ruler of Dubai received military training at Mons Officer Cadet School – Aldershot.

However, while many people know that he is famous for introducing some of the most futuristic projects in Dubai, there are some facts that you may not have known about the ruler.   • Sheikh Mohammed is known to have begun studying Arabic and Islamic studies when he was just four years old.
  • He began his primary education in the year 1955 at Al Ahmadiya School in Diera.
  • Sheikh Mohammed has a vast legacy, which includes everything from Dubai International Airport to setting up the Dubai Port Authority
  • He is the youngest defence minister in the world and was appointed the Dubai Police and Public Security force head in 1968.
  • Following the death of his elder brother Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the then-ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammad took over as the ruler of Dubai in 2006.
    Sheik Mohammed is a horseman and he has also learnt falconry and hunting from an early age.
