No Place Celebrates Jagaddhatri Puja Like Chandannagar
Taking to the X platform, Sudhanidhi Bandyopadhyay (@SudhanidhiB) shared videos of celebrating Jagaddhatri Puja in this city.
Did you know that many men in Chandannagar actually dress up as women and follow different rituals to perform the final Devi Boron traditions before the immersion of Maa Jagaddhatri on Doshomi? Male devotees wear sarees and carry puja ki thali with all the essentials for Maa’s aarti. Just like women performing aarti during Durga Puja, men also wear clean sarees, dress up well, and follow all the traditions to offer prayers to Maa Jagaddhatri on Jagaddhatri Puja’s final day.
These unique rituals are being followed for decades now. What started as a necessity for men to disguise themselves as women and keep the women of their families indoors and safe has now transformed into a well-celebrated tradition among one and all.
The decades-old rituals, cultures, and beliefs are worshipped by today’s generation beautifully. Men of different ages assemble together to perform Maa Jagaddhatri’s aarti and Devi Boron on the last day of Jagaddhatri Puja celebrations by wearing sarees.
