The higher reaches of this union territory are most likely to experience rain as well as snow over two days. Here are all the important details that you would need to know about this particular weather update.
Jammu & Kashmir To Witness Rain, Snowfall In Higher Reaches
According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, Jammu and Kashmir’s weather will be affected. As per the officials cited in the article, a weak western disturbance will affect the weather of the union territory. Owing to this, light rain can be expected in the higher reaches of the union territory.
In addition to light rain, light snowfall is also expected especially in regions like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Gurez Valley and Mughal Road. What is more, as per the meteorological department, this western disturbance might result in a slight improvement in the minimum temperature till Sunday. After Sunday, the minimum temperatures are expected to fall by one to three degrees.
The officials also stated that the cold wave situation has improved in central as well as north Kashmir. This is mainly due to the cloud cover. However, in South Kashmir, the temperature dropped significantly last night.

Other Important Details About This Weather Update
Many people visit places like Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Qazigund to experience the snow and cold which is rarely witnessed anywhere else in the country. Srinagar, which is dubbed the summer capital of the country, hit minus 1.3 degrees Celsius on Friday night. Earlier, temperatures as low as minus 3.5 degrees were recorded in the region.
Located in the south of Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Pahalgam, too, has witnessed cold temperatures. Pahalgam serves as the base camp from where people commence their Amarnath Yatra. The minimum temperature here was recorded at minus 5.1 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, which is situated in Baramulla, recently witnessed a temperature of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.
Other places in the union territory that witnessed sub-zero temperatures recently are Qazigund and Kokernag town as well as Kupwara. In Qazigund, minus 3.8 degrees Celsius was recorded; in Kokernag town minus 3.6 degrees Celsius was recorded. Kupwara witnessed a minimum temperature of minus one degree Celsius.
