Jammu & Kashmir’s Jaie Valley in picturesque Bhaderwah is slowly emerging as a sought after picnic destination. Tourists carrying picnic baskets are thronging here in large numbers to soak in the beauty of the Jaie Valley nestled 7850 feet high above sea level. Here’s more to it.

Jaie Valley Emerges As J&K’s Popular Picnic Spot

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Jaie Valley meadows in Jammu & Kashmir’s Jaie Valley is now a favourite a picnic spot amongst locals and tourists alike. Nestled 30 km from Bhaderwah, the valley welcomed 4 lakh tourists including 1.20 lakh students between May to September. The valley is home to a 9 km long meadow. A stream runs between the valley that later merges at Kahara with a tributary of the Chenab.

Dilmir Chowdhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner revealed to Hindustan Times that over 1.20 lakh students from 385 schools, colleges and other educational institutions visited the valley for picnics. From May 1 to September 9, Jaie Valley was the most visited high-altitude destination by students in the Jammu region. During the same period, over 3 lakh tourists from in and outside Jammu & Kashmir visited Jaie Valley.

Here’s What Picnickers Can Look Forward To Here

Mohd Hussain Chechi, a village headman revealed to Hindustan Times that over one lakh additional visitors headed to Jaie Valley for picnics this year. With this valley becoming a popular picnic spot, it has increased the fortunes of the locals. The tribal Gujjar community have highly benefitted from this as they are selling more milk and milk products from their meadows. More tourists have opted for pony rides to explore Jaie Valley. Many other locals opened makeshift shops, tent houses and eateries to accommodate the increasing number of tourists.

So, what can picnickers do here at Jaie Valley? Kids can spend their time riding ponies, playing cricket and gorging on organic food from the eateries. Just basking in the beauty of the lush green meadows, coniferous trees and gushing water bodies makes it the perfect picnic spot.
