Japan: Ahead Of Typhoon, Barrier Covering Mount Fuji Lowered; Local Authorities’ Efforts To Deter Unruly Tourists Successful!

After seeing a slew of tourists this year, Japan decided to implement several tourist control measures across the country to deter unruly tourists. One such step was erecting a black mesh barrier to block the view of Mount Fuji in Fujikawaguchiko earlier this year. Now, however, Japan removed the barrier blocking Mount Fuji’s view after successfully controlling tourist flow in this town.

Earlier this year, a black mesh barrier was erected to block the view of Mount Fuji to discourage unruly tourists in Fujikawaguchiko, Japan. Now, however, the authorities have decided to relax this tourist control measure and have taken down the barrier in the town. The screen was lowered on August 15 ahead of a typhoon. The town has not decided to put it up yet.

The move to erect the barrier was taken after many locals in the town were troubled by the large number of tourists flocking to the town earlier this year. To deter them, local authorities decided to erect a barrier where tourists would stop by to click pictures of Mount Fuji. This move discouraged the tourists from coming to this town and helped restore normalcy there.

According to a Hindustan Times report, while there are still some foreign tourists here, the numbers are quite low and their behaviour isn’t unruly. Earlier this year, many foreign tourists flooded the area and even trespassed onto nearby properties for better views. Despite signage and warnings by the locals, the tourists ignored them all and violated the privacy of the locals.

Japan decided to lower the barrier on August 15 ahead of a typhoon. While the authorities may have decided to relax their tourist control measures, foreigners aren’t too keen to return to the town yet. This could be mainly because of the looming issue of the typhoon but it looks like Fujikawaguchiko has been able to achieve what they set out to do earlier this year. The town officials have also maintained that they will put up the screen again if tourists return and cause more problems.
