Great news for Jammu & Kashmir is that a tunnel on the Banihal-Katra rail link is now completed as reported by the officials. It is a 9.8 km tunnel creating a connection between two stations on the 111 km under-construction Banihal-Katra rail link. This is the third tunnel that the Indian railways constructed post the completion of the 12.6 km tunnel T-49B at the beginning of 2022, January.
J&K Gets 9.8km Tunnel On Banihal-Katra Rail Link
This 9.8 km tunnel on the Banihal-Katra railway link in J&K falls under the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line project. An official said on Monday, ‘We have succeeded in completing the construction work on the tunnel between Dugga and Sawlakote stations in the Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link’. The officials also stated that the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) is a national project and it is the responsibility of the Indian railways to complete the project in time. Further, the official added that they have completed this tunnel in J&K connecting 2 railway stations. The USBRL project is 272 km. Its part of 161 km was commissioned in 3 phases.
J&K Is Now Home To World’s Highest Rail Bridge
Kashmir achieved a massive milestone just some days back with the completion of the long-anticipated project of the rail bridge over the Chenab river. Interestingly, this is the highest rail bridge in the world standing in the Kouri area of the Reasi district. The project was completed on 14 August 2022 with the golden joint on the overarch deck of this rail bridge. The officials of this project shared that the completion took place with a blast. And they also initiated the work process on the escape tunnel T-13 as well.

The Dugga railway station is connecting Basindadar railway station. Nestled at the Jammu end, Dugga is in connection with Basindadar towards the Srinagar end. The officials shared that 2 out of 7 railway stations under the Katra-Banihal section have a connection with this tunnel. The construction began in 2018. The 111-km Katra-Banihal section is currently under the construction process. This has 35 tunnels and 37 bridges.
