Mumbai Local is an iconic transit system that connects almost the entire city. Besides being called the ‘lifeline’ of this city, it is known for overcrowding! In fact, more than 7.5 million people travel by these local trains daily. The Mumbai local trains are one of the busiest commuter rail systems in the world. Recently, we came across a video that is a daily sight for Mumbaikars; watch!

Women Casually Hanging Out Of Mumbai Local Trains Is Normal

We came across a video of women literally hanging out of the local train, which is a daily sight for Mumbaikars. The video featured a ladies’ compartment where women were holding on to the overhead handle and pole. It looks like they are almost going to fall with just a slip!

It is a deadly way to travel considering the train’s speed and its surroundings. However, this is not a new thing for Mumbaikars. In fact, people are so used to this, that some of them purposely hang outside the local train.

Any commuter will tell you that riding the suburban trains in Mumbai is never a simple chore. To get a seat on a local train, one must brave the congestion, the heat, and other conditions. To get to their destinations, people frequently sit on the train floors and even hold onto the doors.

Accidents Occurred Due To Overcrowding

Numerous deadly incidents have occurred as a result of people clinging onto train doors. One such incident occurred at a city train station, and the video of it has gone viral on social media.
In the footage, a man was seen clinging to the door of an overloaded local train in Mumbai with other passengers. The man attempted to exit the train, nevertheless, as it approached a platform in the station.

Another incident took place on an AC train from Virar to Churchgate. Since the doors were open while the train was in motion, it suffered a technical issue. And this happened due to overcrowding!

According to several reports, the number of deaths due to falling from an overcrowded train has increased in recent years!
