sonakshi

Sonakshi Sinha and Vijay Varma star in a mystery TV series called Dahaad. They came together on our Sunday Brunch with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani. As Dahaad revolves around Rajasthan and the police department, there had to be conversations about accents, languages, stunts performed and more. We also taught her some of the basic Marathi words that will help her in future; read on to know about it.

Sonakshi Sinha Learned Three Marathi Words From Kamiya

Kamiya wanted to know if any police officer ever caught Sonakshi Sinha and Vijay Varma. Sonakshi recalled that she was with her friends on a drive when a police officer stopped them. She told us that her friends warned her to stay quiet because they wanted to converse with the police officer in Marathi.

Hence, Kamiya asked, “You don’t know Marathi at all?” and she replied in the negative. This prompted Kamiya to teach Sonakshi Sinha a couple of Marathi words which might help her when she is caught up with any police officer.

She taught her ‘Jau dya na’ and Sonakshi quickly picked it up and added the word ‘Sahab’ at the end. So, ‘Jau dya na, sahab’ means let me go, sir. Both of them laughed and agreed that it was an easy way out and was their go-to phrase when caught by the police. What else could we have taught her?

Why Does She Not Know The Marathi Language?

When Kamiya asked Sonakshi Sinha about her knowledge of the Marathi language, she told us that she was very keen on learning the language. But when her school board changed to ICSE, the Marathi language was changed to Sanskrit language. She expressed her sadness about it because she really wanted to learn Marathi.

Kamiya pointed out that most people in Maharashtra know this language and it is quite important to know it. Sonakshi agreed to this and also shared that she understands basic Marathi words because she still had the subject till the 3rd standard. She told us she understands but it becomes difficult for her to form sentences.
