Kargil To Be Transformed Into An Adventure Tourism Destination

What comes to your mind when you think about adventure tourism in India? River rafting in Rishikesh, paragliding in Bir Billing or skiing in Auli? Kargil too might become a hub for adventure tourism soon. The government is planning to utilise the vast potential of tourism in the picturesque expanse. Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel has said that the Centre is aiming to equip Ladakh’s Kargil district with the infrastructure of international standards to make it an adventure tourism destination. Also, for the first time in the history of Independent India, the National Tourism Day celebration took place in Kargil on January 25, 2021, to explore the untapped potential of the local youth and to promote it as a world-class adventure sports destination.

Kargil To Get International Level Adventure Tourism Infrastructure

According to an NDTV report, the tourism minister has talked about the PM’s plan to promote adventure tourism in the country’s unexplored areas with immense tourism potential. Patel said, “Kargil is one among them. The government of India is fully committed to creating international level tourism infrastructure in the district so that a feasible environment is created for tourism and employment opportunities.” He added, “The Ministry of Home Affairs has opened over 100 peaks for mountaineering in the country for domestic as well as foreign tourists to promote adventure tourism, which also includes several peaks of Kargil district.,” Siachen in Ladakh has also officially become a tourist spot.

Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) Comes Up In Kargil

A branch of Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) has come up in Kargil. The opening of the institute happened on the National Tourism Day. It aims to make Kargil a thoughtfully planned world-class adventure sports destination. The institute aims to nurture local talent through the best of education in the field of mountaineering, skiing, ice hockey and other winter sports. Nature’s own backyard, rich in cultural traditions, the unexplored heaven for adventure enthusiasts, Kargil is getting prepared to be the one-stop destination for the adrenaline junkies now. Patel has encouraged the youth of Kargil by distributing sports kits to nurture their inherent talent towards adventure sports.
