Soon, the Karnataka government will launch a digital platform for Indira Canteens that will allow customers to place their orders online. As per The Times of India report, this system will allow meal reservations and improve service efficiency in the canteens.

A customer will be able to reserve meals at their nearest Indira Canteens with this digital system. Once the order is placed, the ordered food will be set aside for a short period. The customer can then come and pick up their meal from the canteen. Unlike usual online food ordering, this service will only reserve the food at the canteen and the customer will have to pick up the food by themselves.

According to the report, a pilot project of this digital system will be launched in Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is calling for tenders to facilitate this digital project. If it is successful, then it will be expanded to other districts across Karnataka.

Besides placing online food orders, this digital system will also have a feedback mechanism. This will allow customers to rate the food quality and report any issues directly through the platform, The Times of India reported. This feedback will be accessible to the concerned authorities and will, in turn, help in issues like food quality, contractor management, and hygiene.

They will also be able to track daily transactions and customer preferences with this digital system at Indira Canteens. With this, they will be able to create a menu that will meet the local demand. Indira Canteens are popular low-cost eateries in Karnataka. Inspired by the Amma Unavagam programme of Tamil Nadu, these canteens serve food at a subsidised rate. One can enjoy idlis, coconut chutney, rice, sambar, curd rice, tomato bath, and a few other items at these canteens.
