Karnataka High Court Permits State Hotels To Serve Free Food To Voters

Legislative Assembly elections are taking place in Karnataka on 10 May 2023. On Tuesday, The Karnataka High Court allowed the hotels in the state to serve free food to all the voters. People who are participating in voting in the Karnataka Assembly elections on Wednesday will get to enjoy free food from the hotels on election day. This step has been taken to encourage everyone to cast their vote.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Restrained Providing Free Food On Karnataka Assembly Voting Day

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) forbade serving free food to the voters on the day of elections. So many hotels in Karnataka started discussing this and came up with this decision but BBMP restricted it. In fact, the State Election Commission also provided warnings to these hotels else strict actions to be taken against them. In between all these contradicting opinions, the hotel association took this case to the high court.

According to a report by Mangalorean.com, the association approached the state high court along with the owners of Bengaluru’s Nisarga Grand Hotel. They stated that this offer has no links with anything political, rather it is a step to encourage everyone in Karnataka to cast their vote. This step is to spread awareness among everyone.

According to a report by Outlook, the owner of Nisarga Grand Hotel, Krishnaraja shared that they did something similar back in the 2018 Assembly and 2019 Lok Sabha elections as well.

Voters Wil Get The Free Food Only After Casting The Vote

One cannot simply go ahead and grab their free food. To avail of this offer, they will need to show the black ink marked-finger to the hotels. This is a proof of voting and no one will get food free of cost without the marked finger.

Soon many more hotels in the state agreed to this decision and started providing similar plans for the voters visiting their hotels.

Bengaluru’s Nisarga Grand Hotel is serving butter dosa, Mysuru pak, and cold drinks to all the voters vising here after casting their vote. The owner also added they are giving away 100 cinema tickets free of cost to voters voting for the first time.
