The Kashmir Files, a film on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s has kicked up a storm in India. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, it stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi and Mithun Chakraborty. The film is a hard-hitting narrative of the trauma, suffering and struggle of the Kashmiri Pandits, questioning democracy, politics and humanity. The Kashmir Files jam-packed theatres, created a rage in the box office- garnering ₹179.85 crores in the ticket counter and has been a topic of debate and even heated controversy. While many hailed it as a much-needed story that needs to be told,  others criticised the movie for being explorative. Peak Tourist Season Takes Over Kashmir

Kashmir is currently enjoying its peak tourist season. The last snow of the season has led to an influx of tourists from across India. Sonmarg and Gulmarg in Kashmir are clad in snow. It’s the last snow of the season, and visitors can’t get enough of it. Snow activities like cable cars and sledge rides are in peak demand during this time of the year. From October to February, Kashmir undergoes peak winter, where it’s too cold and even unsafe to indulge in these activities. From April onwards, the snow starts melting to give way to summer. So, this is the best time of the year to go for scenic cable car rides and adventure sledge activities in Kashmir. Moreover, this is the only time of the year adventure activity providers can earn a living before the season comes to an end.

Is It Safe To Visit Kashmir Now Amid Kashmir Files Controversy?

So, you’d have understood by now that it’s perfectly safe to visit Kashmir right now. The Kashmir Files controversy may have created a storm across India and the world. Nevertheless, this noise is outside Kashmir and hasn’t penetrated inside the valley yet. Srinagar doesn’t have any theatres, and by 7:30 pm, the entire region shuts down for the night. The locals are focussed on earning their bread and butter during the peak tourist season. There are several flights flying to Srinagar from Delhi and Mumbai, with many direct ones from Delhi. So, Kashmir is safe, peaceful and welcoming amid the Kashmir Files controversy.
