Kerala does not have a functional express highway till now and this is the reason behind some significant speed limits set on the highway. Motor Vehicle Department’s draft rule states that vehicles are allowed to maintain a maximum speed of 110 km/hr on all express highways.

But as Kerala still does not have such an enhanced express highway yet, the guideline may change. The transport Minister stated in a meeting that vehicles can now exceed the speed limit of 90 km/hr but this is only applicable on Kerala’s 6-lane highways. Heavy vehicles and buses need to follow the limit of 95 km/hr on these roads.
