One of the biggest and most iconic highlights of the Kochi metro operations is its water metro. After a much-awaited period, the water metro connecting the High Court and Fort Kochi has started its services. It was on April 21, 2024, when operations on this route began successfully. From locals to tourists, hundreds and thousands of people were present to witness this spectacular beginning of AC electric-hybrid ferries on Sunday morning.

Many passengers were waiting to see the inaugural metro starting its services and waiting to hop on the ferries and enjoy a ride as well. It was around 10 AM when the operations were flagged off on Sunday, according to a report by The New Indian Express. Among the passengers on the first ferry were Loknath Behera, the managing director of the Kochi Metro Rail Limited, and travel enthusiast Santhosh George Kulangara.
Some of the most joyous visuals that people got to witness on this ride were of dolphins and the famous Kochi backwaters. It has indeed been an incredible experience for all the passengers. - Commuters can now head to Fort Kochi from High Court by travelling on the AC electric-hybrid ferries.
- The journey takes about 18 to 20 minutes.
- Ferries are available once in an interval of 20 to 30 minutes.
- Each ticket costs ₹40.

With the launch of water metros from the High Court, commuters can enjoy a scenic and hassle-free journey en route to Fort Kochi. The best part is that there is no need to be stuck in traffic and waste hours travelling.
Cochin Shipyard Ltd has delivered 14 ferries to Kochi Water Metro Ltd as of now. The plan is to hand over 23 ferries. The rest will likely be provided soon by June.
