“Kolkata Is An Excellent City,” X User Counters Tourist Who Called The City Dirty; Netizens Back The Argument

Opinions, perspectives, and judgements play a huge role in terms of understanding a place, person, or situation. Here is one such incidence. A tourist recently shared his unpleasant experience visiting Kolkata on the social media platform X. He said that Kolkata was the dirtiest city because his experience there was so upsetting, and many people in the comments agreed with him. However, in a recent development, another user on X uploaded a lengthy thread defending the city and its beauty, while others in the comments backed his viewpoint, refuting the tourist’s assertions.

X User Calls Kolkata An Excellent City In India

A counter-thread to the tourist’s assertions was posted by X user Shamindu Mukherjee (@Sham_Bharat) on the social media platform. He called the tourist a traitor in his post and mentioned that the thread portrayed Kolkata and India in a negative light, highlighting the city as an excellent as per Indian standard. Let’s see his counterarguments.

The X user argues in his upcoming threads, that he plans to showcase the old Kolkata, which includes 90% of the city’s beautiful, modern, and top-class aspects.

He shared a screenshot of a Times of India story listing Kolkata as one of the top 100 global travel destinations, claiming that the city is old and that many Indian cities have two sides. Further, he claims that 25% of Kolkata’s area is newly developed, 90% is well-organised, and only 10% is dirty. He also points out the credibility of the tourist’s photos, saying, “Anyone can click this type of picture in any old Indian city.”

He said that “Kolkata has India’s best riverside view” after sharing pictures of Millennium Park on the Ganga River’s side.

Further, he posted images of Dalhousie Square, Kolkata’s oldest neighbourhood with historic buildings. He also mentioned how well-maintained, neat, clean, and preserved the area is.

As his thread continues, he shares some beautiful images of two of the oldest Kolkata areas, one being Park Street and the other being Esplanade.

Showcasing the beauty of South Kolkata, he posted several vibrant and colourful photographs of Park Circus, Ballygunge, Deshpriya Park, Elgin Road, Gariahat, and Jadabpur.

Shifting the focus from streets and buildings to street markets, he shared photographs of the street markets of Old Kolkata, Hatibagan Market, and Gariahat Market. The market is part of one of the oldest Kolkata markets and is near Swami Vivekananda’s birthplace. He also posed the question, “Are those dirty?” in relation to the pictures he posted.

“Are these dirty?” he asked again after he shared the images of College Street. College Street is India’s largest book market and a focal point of the Indian Renaissance.

Sarcasm has also made its way into the X user’s thread and this article. After sharing the images of the Victoria Memorial and the second Hooghly Bridge, he sarcastically remarks, “Please ignore the Victoria memorials and the second Hooghly bridge; very dirty place.”

Concluding his thread, he shared his disappointment regarding a few photos that the tourist used.
