People of Kolkata, we have important news for you. Soon, there will be a closure effective on the Steel Bridge over Tolly’s Nallah on Garden Reach Road. Vineet Kumar Goyal, Kolkata Police Commissioner, issued a traffic notification ahead of the road closure. Read on to know all the necessary information about the recently issued advisory.

Kolkata Traffic Police Issued Notification For Temporary Closure Of Steel Bridge Over Tolly’s Nallah

Kolkata Traffic Police shared the crucial advisory and necessary information on the X (formerly, Twitter) platform.

The steel bridge over Tolly’s Nallah on Garden Reach Road will be closed only temporarily. According to the information provided in the advisory, the temporary closure will be effective from 11 PM on June 23. It will continue till 7 AM of the next morning, June 24.

The notification has been released earlier to ensure public safety and convenience. The decision was taken to conduct the Load Test of this bridge. It will be done to assess and prepare the Detailed Project Report “for repair and retrofitting works.” The closure will be operational for 8 hours.

Starting from 10 PM, cars and other vehicles cannot ply on the following stretches:

  • Vehicles will not be allowed to ply from the CGR Road/ Satya Doctor Road crossing towards Satya Doctor Road.
  • Vehicles travelling from the crossing of Clyde Road/ St. Georges Gate Road towards Clyde Road to the east will be diverted, according to the recently issued traffic advisory.
  • Also, any vehicle coming from G.R. Road/ Watgunge Street crossing towards East from Doi Ghat bridge will not be permitted.
  • Vehicles will not be allowed to travel towards Doi Ghat Bridge from Commissariat Road/ Clyde Row crossing.

The traffic notification mentioned that all types of eastbound vehicles, excluding goods vehicles on Satya Doctor Road and G.R. Road, will be diverted from G.R. Road/ Watgunge Street. The reason behind this decision is to use Watgunge Street for the northward journey. Another important road diversion to note is about CGR Road. All kinds of vehicles will use CGR Road to continue their Eastward and Westward journeys.
