Kolkata; a city representing decades-old culture, history, traditions, and heritage beautifully. Lanes of the city showcase a slice of the past magnificently. Small eateries and restaurants still preserve the decades and centuries-old aura and serve dishes that continue to rule foodies’ hearts. Nestled in Kolkata’s Hazra, a famous place named Cafe has been running successfully for around 87 years. A long time has passed since its introduction but visitors still experience the surreal and traditional charm tucked here.

Generations After Generations Are Visiting The Legendary Cafe In Hazra

Ditsha (@bewitchparanoia) shared a beautiful glimpse of this eminent establishment in the City of Joy.

We picturise cafes to look aesthetic with Instagram-worthy corners, pretty decor, unique lights, and modern elements. A cafe that is named Cafe is actually the entire opposite of modern-day new establishments. You will find good food, a timeless ambience, and a journey to the past here but none of the offerings are anywhere close to what eateries and restaurants offer these days.

Cafe in Hazra is one of the many places in Kolkata that have been successfully running since the pre-independence years. Amar Nath Banerjee opened its doors long back in 1937. In this glorious journey of 87 years, the cafe has witnessed a lot, from changes to new inclusions. However, it remained the closest to its roots. The temperature can exceed 40°C during the summer season but you will not get any air-conditioners inside.

Sidhu Jetha (@SidhuJetha) shared a photo of a cup of chai served here.

Wooden furnished chairs and tables, blue and yellow coloured slightly chipped walls, basic plates, steel jugs, and all these small elements have magnificently saved the classic legacy and never-ending charisma of Cafe. Entering this place feels like taking a trip back in the day, to a time we have only heard about from our grandparents.

And What About The Menu?

2024Bharat (@Barendrabhumi)’s X post highlights a stunning snippet of Cafe’s entrance.

Initially, Amar Nath Banerjee began serving a special English Pudding here. 87 years later, it continues to be one of the most demanded dishes to try. The mouth-watering dessert is loaded with a mix of cashews, raisins, bread, butter, a few secret ingredients, and abundant deliciousness. The most fascinating feature of this sweet delight is a foam layer topped on it.

Indeed, Cafe is famous all around for its legendary English Pudding. But have you checked out the entire menu? This place offers classic options such as Fish Fry, Chicken Kabiraji, Fish Chop, Chicken Afghani, Vegetable Chop, Mutton Kabiraji, Gravy Mutton Chap, Gravy Chicken Roast, Fish Roll, Chicken Stew, Chicken Fry, and more.
