The deployment of the special Kumbh Mela train service from Bengaluru to Varanasi by the South Western Railway along with other additional trains demonstrates the enhanced measures taken by the Indian railway department to aid the devotees in their pilgrimages. The implemented initiative not only provides easier access to the sacred event but also highlights the railway’s commitment to serving the nation’s populace during such religious congregations.

Special Kumbh Mela Train Service to Ease Travel for Commuters

The South Western Railway (SWR) will operate a one-way special express to cater to the increased demand for passengers travelling to Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. According to India TV, the scheduled special train (No. 06579) will depart from SMVT Bengaluru at 1 pm on Thursday (January 23), and it is expected to arrive in Varanasi at 1:30 pm on January 25. During the journey, multiple key stations are spanned, with convenient travel options being offered to pilgrims.

Featuring 20 coaches, the special train is going to provide plenty of space for passengers ensuring a comfortable ride for everyone. It includes 17 Sleeper Class coaches, one General Second Class coach, and two General Luggage and Divyaang-friendly coaches.

The Kumbh Mela is one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings, held every 12 years in one of the four sacred Indian cities: Allahabad (Prayagraj), Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. Rooted in Indian mythology, it symbolises the quest for salvation, drawing millions of pilgrims, saints, and tourists. The religious congregation is recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This acknowledgement celebrates Kumbh Mela’s role in fostering cultural diversity, unity, and shared traditions.
