Landslides Blocked Jammu-Srinagar NH On Sept 12; 4 People Died. Traffic Was Restored Later

Tuesday morning faced a rough start in some towns of Jammu and Kashmir. Kishtwari, Pather, and Banihal were hit by landslides on the morning of September 12, 2023. Right after the horrible incidents, usual traffic movement and transportation were completely stopped on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway from both directions. Here are all the updates about the transportation there.

Landslides Blocked Traffic For Some Time On Tuesday

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, J&K Traffic Police (@Traffic_hqrs) shared updates about the transportation on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

From both ends of the national highway, the transportation remained at a halt for a few hours. The traffic flow had to be blocked immediately due to the landslides in 3 towns in Jammu and Kashmir. The J&K Traffic Police advised people to not travel on NH-44 without any prior confirmation from the authorities mentioned in the tweet.

The unfortunate natural disaster killed 4 people, according to a report by The Times of India- IndiaTimes. The landslide struck the vehicle with these 4 people when they were on the highway in Banihal.

Traffic Restored Later On The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, the J&K Traffic Police (@Traffic_hqrs) updated that the traffic movement was restored after a couple of hours of the landslides at Kishtwari, Pather, and Banihal.

At 9:55 AM on Tuesday, the Jammu & Kashmir Traffic Police made the announcement of reinitiating vehicular movement on National Highway 44. “People are advised to follow lane discipline”, the J&K Traffic Police added in the tweet.

After the landslides at Kishtwari, Pather, and Banihal and a waiting period of a few hours, the traffic flow was restored on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway as usual. Unfortunately, 4 people lost their lives in this terrifying accident in Banihal in the Ramban district.

Sadly, this is not the first time that something like this happened in this region. The Shri Amarnath journey from Jammu to Srinagar came to a pause in August this year. The reason for this halt was a landslide on the highway in the Ramban district.
