Learn How To Be Pro In Lucknowi Slang Courtesy Ali Fazal

The ‘Guddu bhaiya’ of ‘Mirzapur’ and Lucknowi janab, Ali Fazal, joined our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for one of our episodes of Tere Gully Mein in Carter Road. He has delivered compelling performances in numerous films like ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Fukrey’, ‘3 Idiots’ among others. Recently, he has been on father duties as he welcomed a baby girl with Richa Chadha, an actor and his wife. Apart from that, we learned some Lucknowi slang from the Lucknowi boy. Check it out.

Lucknowi Slang With Ali Fazal

Towards the end of the video, we stepped into JuCo to sip on some fresh coconut water and a delicious berry milkshake prepared with fresh berries. Kamiya urged Ali Fazal to translate some typical slang into the Lucknowi version. He seemed a little sceptical about this game but tried his hand at it.

The first scenario was if someone wanted to threaten the other person. Ali pointed fingers at a hypothetical person and said, “Bhai tu apni aukaat mein reh!” Next was someone who was extremely powerful and influential and to that, our guest commented, “Bhaukaali dikhane wala aadmi.”

The next was – what does one say when they are utterly irritated? Ali laughed and quickly changed his actual answer to make the episode more kid-friendly by saying, Dimaag kharab ho gaya.” After hearty laughs, now, we do want to know what was his actual answer. Any Lucknow peeps who can share the real slang in the comments below?

Kamiya touched upon Ali Fazal being the first Indian actor to be on off-Broadway in America. The actor shared, “I always wanted to check that off my list. I am having fun there and we have thoroughly rehearsed it. I think next year at some point we will open shows.” For timeline, this video was released in December 2023.

He was worried about not performing in all the off-Broadway shows as he has work commitments in India. He will try to balance everything out and see how things roll. We wish you all the best for a new journey, Ali, and rock the stage!
