Local Artists Transform More Than 100 Dubai Parking Meters Into Beautiful Art Pieces

If you happened to go to Jumeirah, Dubai Media City or Al Mustaqbal Street you might have come across something super cool. Six Emirati and expatriate artists have transformed more than 100 parking meters across the city into colourful artworks. How cool is that! The 15 unique designs depict diversity and creativity. Seen it yet?

What’s It?

Dubai has always boasted a rich art scene and now there’s a simple, yet unique addition to this list. Parking meters across the city just got a fresh, new look, thanks to the six Emirati and expatriate artists. The gang of artists have enlivened the streets of Jumeirah, Dubai Media City and Al Mustaqbal Street with 15 artworks. The paintings are inspired by themes of diversity and tolerance.

The new initiative is the result of a joint venture between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Brand Dubai. Brand Dubai is the creative arm of Government of Dubai Media Office. The team develops initiatives aimed at enhancing the look and feel of Dubai. The new initiative is part of the #DubaiSpeaksToYou project- an effort to transform the city’s streets into a palette of colors with vibrant art work.

Quirky animations like an ice cream stick, an Emirati man and Russian dolls, are some of the art works will encounter. Besides, the RTA recently painted all the parking meters in blue, depicting the various mobility modes in the city.

What Else?

Expo 2020 is one of the biggest events Dubai will witness this year and the emirate is doing its best to make it a huge success. As part of the grand event, Dubai RTA has launched brand new, Expo 2020- themed number plates. Vehicle owners who wish to change their number plates to the Expo 2020 golden rings logo can buy it online by submitting an application form on the RTA website. The number plate costs AED 200, in addition to a nominal fee of fixing the logo.

The plates will be issued within three working days and motorists can collect it from their nearest RTA customer service centre.

According to Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO of Licensing Agency, RTA:

“The launch of this initiative aims to support Dubai hosting Expo 2020, and motorists will now be able to have their vehicle plates replaced with the Expo logo.”

Its time to drive around and show off your brand new number plate! Meanwhile, here’s everything you need to know about Expo 2020
