On Tuesday, the Madhya Pradesh government imposed a ban on liquor in 19 religious cities and gram panchayats. This ban is part of the state’s new liquor policy and will be effective from April 1, 2025. All establishments that sell alcoholic beverages, including liquor shops and bars, will have to close their operations within the entire urban boundaries of several cities. Madhya Pradesh Bans Liquor In 19 Places
According to the Hindustan Times, Madhya Pradesh announced a ban on the sale of liquor and all alcoholic beverages in 19 religious places. As per the state’s excise department, this move is part of steps taken by the government for social change. Furthermore, they wish to discourage the consumption of high-intensity liquor and introduce a new category of country-made liquor.
Reportedly, on January 25, the Madhya Pradesh government announced a new excise policy. As part of this, they announced plans to impose a complete ban on the sale and purchase of liquor in 19 religious places across the state. This ban will shut down around 47 liquor stores in these areas, once the excise policy comes into effect completely.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav called this move a historic step towards de-addiction. While announcing the ban, he also spoke about the ill effects of liquor consumption and how he doesn’t want the state’s youths to get spoiled because “they are the future of the country”.

Ban To Be Implemented In These Places
From April 1, 2025, liquor will be completely prohibited in the following 19 religious urban and rural areas of Madhya Pradesh –
1. Ujjain
2. Omkareshwar
3. Maheshwar
4. Mandleshwar
5. Orchha
6. Maihar
7. Chitrakoot
8. Datia
9. Panna
10. Mandla
11. Multai
12. Mandsaur
13. Amarkantak.
14. Salkanpur
15. Kundalpur
16. Bandakpur
17. Barmankalan
18. Barmankhurd
19. Linga
