Maharashtra Makes 7-Day Institutional Quarantine Compulsory For Passengers From UAE

A seven-day institutional quarantine for passengers travelling from UAE to Maharashtra has come into effect immediately. The institutional quarantine will also be followed by home quarantine for seven days. As per the reports in a leading daily, an official with the Consulate General of India in Dubai confirmed this decision by Maharashtra government.

7-Day Home Quarantine Followed By Institutional Quarantine Is A Must

In terms of the quarantine rules, they are applicable only in Maharashtra for now, and not for other states in India. Neeraj Agarwal, Consul, Press, Information, and Culture, Dubai said,

“The institutional quarantine will be in government-approved guest houses and hotels.”

Speaking about the compulsion of Quarantine, Sukishini Paghare, deputy collector (land acquisition department), Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) told Khaleej Times,

“All passengers originating from the Middle East, including the UAE, will have to undergo seven days of institutional quarantine. This will be followed by another seven days of home quarantine. The rules apply to all passengers originating from Middle Eastern, European and African countries.”

Certain Category Of People Do Have An Exemption From The Mandatory Quarantine

About the transit passengers from the UK, Paghare added, 

“Transit passengers originating from the United Kingdom (UK), if any, will have to undergo 14 days of institutional quarantine.”

For the regulations, they are bound to be followed till December 31. The rules will change depending on the situation. While the mandatory quarantine rule is applicable for everyone, a certain section of people are exempted from it.

As per the notice, mandatory institutional quarantine for seven days may not be applicable for a category of passengers. Following a verification at the airport, women in advanced stages of pregnancy and those who have suffered a death in their family are exempt from mandatory institutional seven-day quarantine in Mumbai.
