Whether you’re travelling by train or car, the journey between Mumbai and Pune typically takes around three to four hours, and that’s without factoring in frequent traffic delays. But this is set to change. With the newly proposed Mumbai-Pune bullet train, travel time between the two cities could be reduced to just 48 minutes. Here’s everything you need to know.
New Mumbai-Pune Bullet Train To Cut Travel Time
During the Union Budget 2026, the government announced seven high-speed rail corridors, including the Mumbai-Pune bullet train. This means, Mumbai is all set to get its second bullet train, and it will be connecting the city to Pune. According to Hindustan Times, this new proposed train will cut down the travel time between the two cities to just 48 minutes.
Addressing the media, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Maharashtra will get two new bullet train corridors. The HSR corridor between Mumbai and Pune will bring down travel time to 48 minutes while the second one will connect Pune and Hyderabad in 1 hour, 55 minutes. These two HSR corridors will connect the IT hubs.”
The first operational stretch of India’s bullet train project, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (HSR), is expected to begin on the Vapi–Ahmedabad corridor by 2027.
