Vir Das Receives Fake Apple Watch From Zepto After Paying ₹50,000; Company Sends Replacement

Comedian Vir Das recently had a very bad experience with Zepto, an e-commerce app. He apparently received a fake Apple Watch even after paying ₹50,000. He took to social media to share the incident with his followers, calling it a “full scam” and prompting Zepto to send a replacement. Here’s what happened.

Zepto is one of India’s largest and most popular quick-commerce platforms. It is trusted by millions of users across the country for groceries, fresh produce, personal care items, and even electronics. But paying ₹50,000 and still getting a fake Apple Watch is not something anyone wants, even if it’s a celebrity.

Comedian, actor, and musician Vir Das recently took to his official X account to share a bad experience. According to his post, he needed an Apple Watch urgently for a shoot and ordered one from Zepto, paying ₹50,000 for a Series 11 model. However, the outer box arrived dirty. When he opened it, the inner box had no Apple logo and instead read “Series 9”. He also claimed that the charger came without any Apple logo.

Zepto Responds To The Complaint

You will be shocked to know that Vir Das also revealed that the box said, “Made in China, Designed by Watch in China.” This does not make any sense, right? Expressing his frustration, the comedian wrote, “Okay. Am I wrong or do all Apple Watches look like this, or is @ZeptoNow @zeptocares being shady with China copies? By the way, their customer device agent on the phone said there’s nothing they could do. Full scam. We needed one quick for a shoot. They charged us 50k.” 

Without wasting time, Zepto responded to the complaint and replied, “ Hey, this isn’t the experience we aim to deliver, and I’d like to get this sorted for you. Could you please share your order details and contact number via DM? Once we have that, we’ll look into it right away.” Vir Das later updated his followers and shared that Zepto has sent him a real Apple Watch as a replacement soon after.

Many netizens also shared similar experiences in the comments section. One user wrote that it was foolish to order such an expensive gadget through Zepto, while another made a similar comment that said, “Who buys this stuff from a local vendor like Zepto? Zepto is only good for buying stuff like groceries and vegetables.”
