In an utterly shocking incident, a man flying to Canada on a Bengaluru-Mumbai Vistara connecting flight was denied a refund after the connecting flight’s cancellation. The Bengaluru techie was informed that the cancellation was due to a plane crash and a runway closure at the airport. Denied a refund of a whopping ₹89,000, here’s more to what what happened.
Bengaluru Man Denied Refund Of ₹89,000 After Connecting Flight To Canada Cancelled
As per a report by The Times Of India, Naveenraj Rajan, a techie from Bengaluru was flying to Canada. So, he arrived at Kempegowda International Airport on September 14 to board a Vistara flight to Mumbai. Post his connecting flight, he was to take the second Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) flight from Mumbai to Zurich. Finally, takes his third flight from Zurich to Montreal, his work location.
However, on reaching the airport, he was informed that his Vistara Bengaluru-Mumbai flight was delayed. And then later cancelled as a private jet crashed at Mumbai airport. This led to an eventual runway closure. So, authorities informed Naveenraj Rajan that the next flight to Mumbai was at 1 am on September 15. But the scheduled departure of his second connecting flight from Mumbai to Zurich was earlier.
He revealed to TOI that he expressed his concern that his SWISS airline connecting flight Mumbai-Zurich was scheduled for 12:55 am. Despite speaking to authorities, the Bengaluru techie was unable to board another Vistara flight to Mumbai. At that moment, he trusted the Vistara staff as they were codesharing partners of SWISS. He returned to his Bengaluru home in the hopes of getting a ticket refund of ₹89,000 for his cancelled flight.
Flight Cancelled After Mumbai Airport Runway Shut Down Temporarily
To get his refund, he reached out to GoIbibo. He booked his flight tickets through the online travel booking company in August. To his horror, GoIbibo told him that he failed to report to his destination. As a result, they denied his refund and stated that he was not eligible for it.
Naveenraj Rajan revealed to TOI that he was shocked to receive a message from Goibobo stating his Bengaluru-Montreal flight on September 14 stands cancelled. What’s worse was that no refund was applicable for the same. He called it very unfair that he wouldn’t get a single rupee refund for a fault that wasn’t his. The flight was cancelled due to a private jet accident that subsequently led to runway closure at Mumbai airport.

With no choice left, the Bengaluru man took an Emirates flight from Bengaluru to Montreal with a stop in Dubai on October 4. He paid ₹82,000 for his journey without receiving a refund for the previous debacle. A Goibibo spokesperson stated to TOI that they are working with their partners and have initiated a flight refund. However, in their opinion, the Bengaluru man didn’t reach out to them earlier. Once he did, they initiated a refund.
