Architecture firm Foster + Partners unveiled the designs of this new Old Trafford stadium. Describing the designs, they said, “The focus is to design a world-class football destination and home for Manchester United fans, coupled with a wider masterplan comprising mixed-use developments, which would benefit the local community, attract new residents, increase job provision, and make it a vibrant destination for visitors from Manchester, the UK and all around the world.”

The new Manchester United stadium will be built at a cost of £2 billion. Foster + Partners will not just plan the stadium design but will also help revamp and build a brand-new ‘district’ around the stadium piazza. It will span over one million square metres of brownfield land, Timeout reported.

The new Manchester United stadium will have open spaces that will have an umbrella-like design that will help harvest solar energy and rainwater. This ‘umbrella’ design will also symbolically evoke the club’s trident emblem. The roof will also be acoustically designed to carry the crowd’s cheers beyond the stadium.

Foster + Partners claims that the stadium will be built in the next five years with prefabrication strategies. The stadium will be built from about 160 prefabricated, Meccano-like components, transported via Manchester’s Ship Canal. This new stadium is set to be built on a site near the Old Trafford stadium, the iconic stadium that has been Manchester United’s home since 1910.
