Are you still wondering where to go for Christmas and New Year? There’s excellent news for you. Meghalaya is all set to open its borders for tourists from December 21, right before Christmas. If you already did not know, Meghalaya turns into a wonderland during this time of the year, and it is a must-visit. The state is finally opening for tourists after nine months of lockdown after they had restricted tourist entry from March due to the global pandemic.

Registration On Application Mandatory

Announcing the decision, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted, “We are reopening tourism in Meghalaya for tourists from outside the State from December 21, 2020. To ensure the safety of everyone, registration through the @meghtourism app is made mandatory, and SOPs are put in place. The Home Of Clouds looks forward to welcoming you.”

COVID-Negative Report Compulsory

The government has also put many SOPs in place for the tourists. If you wish to travel to Meghalaya, you will have to produce an original copy of Covid-19 negative report at the entry points. The report will only be valid if you have tested within 72 hours of your arrival at the entry point. Proof Of Valid Photo IDs Necessary

You will need to mandatorily register on the Meghalaya Tourism App and generate an E-invite. The Meghalaya Tourism App is available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. You can also get the E-invite generated on the Meghalaya Tourism website.  A Minimum Stay Of Two Nights Mandatory

To travel to Meghalaya, you will need to book at least two nights stay for the E-Invite to be generated. In case you are staying as a guest in any of the resident’s home, you will need to share address and the complete travel itinerary for the E-Invite. You will have to produce the E-Invite with the QR Code at the Entry Points along with your valid photo IDs. The entry process is contactless, where you can show your documents on the phone.

However, always remember that if you must travel at this time, travel with a lot of precaution.
