President Droupadi Murmu had already laid the foundation stone for the project back in January 2024. However, the initial July start date was pushed back due to the monsoon season. Lyngdoh emphasised that construction will commence in early October, coinciding with the end of the rains and the start of the ideal working season in the region.

This ambitious project, approved by the Meghalaya Cabinet in September 2022, will connect Lawsohtun to Shillong Peak. Passengers can expect breathtaking panoramic views as they are whisked up the slopes in comfort and style. The project is estimated to take two years to complete, and upon its inauguration, will undoubtedly become a major tourist draw for Shillong.

The Meghalaya government is taking meticulous steps to ensure the creation of a top-notch ropeway system. Lyngdoh revealed that a new corrigendum, a document clarifying or amending the tender issued earlier, will be released soon. This signifies the government’s dedication to finalising all necessary procedures before construction commences.

The Shillong Ropeway project is more than just a tourist attraction; it’s a significant development for the state’s infrastructure. This innovative mode of transportation will not only enhance tourism but also potentially open up new avenues for connecting remote areas within the state. The project has the potential to provide a scenic and efficient travel option for both tourists and locals alike.
