Exciting news for Mumbai commuters! The city’s Metro Line 7 (Red Line) and Metro Line 2A (Yellow Line) have just achieved a major milestone. They have been granted the much-awaited safety certification from the Chief Commissioner of Rail Safety (CCRS), paving the way for unrestricted operations. This certification means both metro lines can now operate at a full capacity speed of 80 km/h.
Mumbai Metro Lines 7 & 2A Now Running At Full Speed
With this certification, the metro lines are now cleared for unrestricted operations at full capacity. It will enable the trains to run at a speed of 80 km/h. It is certainly an upgrade from the previous temporary speed limit of 50 to 60 km/h in certain areas. This efficiency will definitely make daily commutes faster, safer, and more comfortable for Mumbaikars.
Metro Line 2A (Yellow Line) connects Dahisar to DN Nagar. It covers 18.6 km of distance over 17 stations in total. Metro Line 7 (Red Line), on the other hand, runs from Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E). It covers 16.5 km of distance over 13 stations. Together, these two lines serve over 2.5 lakh daily passengers, as per the reports from Times Now News.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has integrated cutting-edge technology to ensure the metro network is efficient. With driverless-capable trainsets, communications-based train control (CBTC) signalling, platform screen doors, and innovative ticketing systems, the metro network in Mumbai is growing rapidly.

Metro Set To Ease City Congestion
The city’s leaders are thrilled about these advancements. According to Times Now news, Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister & MMRDA Chairman, shared that the regular authorisation of Metro Lines 7 and 2A is a game changer for Mumbai. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis believes that this achievement brings us closer to transforming Mumbai into a world-class city.
For a city like Mumbai, the expansion of the metro network is not just a piece of infrastructure. It will also reduce travel time significantly for passengers and help with overcrowded roads. It will also prove to be an eco-friendly alternative to conventional modes of transport.
