Dubai: Travelling On Oud Metha Is Now Down From 20 Mins To Just 5 Mins!

If you are someone who travels on the Oud Metha Road in Dubai, then you are in for some brilliant news. We say this because the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has announced that it has completed a major road development project along the road. So, with this development, the journey time would now take just five minutes instead of the previous 20 minutes.

Reducing the travel time along the route by a whopping 75 per cent, the Dubai RTA recently revealed that it has completed its road development project along the route on September 20th. Yes, this road development project comes with increased capacity of the street. It is one of the busiest roads in Dubai. So, the capacity has increased by 50%, which means the number of vehicles per hour has gone from 10,400 to a whopping 15,600 vehicles in both directions. Moreover, this also improves the traffic flow between Oud Metha Road, Al Asayel Street and the surrounding major corridors

What Does This Development Project Include?

Talking about the improvement, the Dubai RTA has added a lane for two left turns for traffic moving in the direction of Al Garhoud Bridge. As a result, the capacity has increased to 1,800 vehicles per hour. The service road, which runs along Sheikh Rashid Road that exists between the bridge and the Al Zahrawi Street exit, has also been upgraded. This has been done to address the traffic overlap and improve road safety. Several right-turn lanes, which take traffic from Sheikh Rashid Road to Oud Metha Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road, have also been increased from two to three.

It Reduces Travel Time To Just 5 Mins

As revealed by the RTA, there are even new bridges, two of which were constructed at the Oud Metha Road, Al Asayel Street and Al Wasl Club Street intersection. These were constructed to connect Al Asayel Street with Al Khail Road. The first one is a two-lane bridge with a capacity of 2,400 vehicles per hour. The second bridge has three lanes and a capacity of 3,600 vehicles per hour.

There is also another two-lane bridge that has a capacity of 2,400 vehicles per hour. Moreover, Dubai RTA has also improved access to the Al Wasl Club. This includes its entry and exit points, which reduce traffic conflicts with the main road. It should be noted that these improvements aim to support the growing traffic demands in the areas of Za’abeel, Oud Metha, Al Jaddaf, and Umm Hurair. This project would also improve access to important facilities, which include Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club.

Furthermore, these improvements aim to reduce congestion along key intersections. This allows for smoother connections between Oud Metha Road and Al Asayel Street.
