1. Indian Passport Services In UAE To Continue As Supreme Court Orders Fresh Tender

If you’re planning to renew your passport or apply for a visa, there’s no immediate change to the process. India’s Supreme Court has dismissed the government’s appeal against a ruling that cancelled the tender for outsourcing passport and visa services in the UAE. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant has given the Ministry of External Affairs three months to issue a fresh tender. Until then, the existing arrangement will continue, with the Indian Embassy and Consulate directly handling passport and visa services.

2. Etihad Rail Confirms Two Free Checked Bags For Every Passenger

Travellers booking Etihad Rail’s upcoming Abu Dhabi–Fujairah service will receive two pieces of checked luggage free of charge, regardless of the ticket category. The allowance applies to passengers aged three years and above. Anyone carrying additional baggage will need to make arrangements in advance. Standard cabin baggage rules remain in place, with bags required to fit within the permitted dimensions and be stored in the overhead compartments.

3. UAE Could Get A Three-Day Weekend In August

A long weekend may be on the cards for UAE residents next month. Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday is expected to fall on Tuesday, 25 August. Under the UAE Cabinet’s holiday transfer policy, the public holiday could move to Monday, 24 August, creating a three-day weekend. The change has not yet been confirmed and needs an official Cabinet resolution. Residents should wait to hear from the government before making travel plans.

4. UAE Issues Over 73,000 Visa-On-Arrival Permits In Six Months

Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has announced that 73,551 visa-on-arrival permits were issued in the first six months of 2026.

The facility is available to eligible travellers from countries including India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Kenya and South Africa, provided they hold a valid US, UK, EU or certain other approved visas or residence permits. Travellers can choose a 14-day visa-on-arrival for Dh172.50 or a 60-day option for Dh422.50, with applications processed within 48 hours.

5. UFC Abu Dhabi Showdown Week Kicks Off This Week On Yas Island

The week-long celebration will take place until July 26 and will include open workouts, fan experiences, gym challenges and meet-and-greet sessions prior to UFC Fight Night: Ankalaev vs Guskov at Etihad Arena on July 25. Fans can also visit the free UFC Fan Experience at Yas Mall throughout the week, while ceremonial weigh-ins will take place on Friday, 24 July.
