From UAE Activating 48 Flights Per Hour to Qatar Airways Suspending Services, 5 GCC Updates

This week witnessed rapid developments in the Gulf region. GCC updates to consider include air travel modifications, unexpected weather changes, and so on.

UAE Opens Safe Air Corridors, Monitors Grocery Prices As GCC Updates Unfold

1. UAE Activates Emergency Air Corridors

The UAE has opened safe air corridors in coordination with Gulf countries and is currently handling 48 flights per hour, as reported by Gulf News

During the government media briefing, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy, confirmed that 17,498 passengers travelled on 60 flights between March 1st and 3rd. The current emergency routing system allows 48 aircraft movements per hour, with flexible capacity that can scale up if conditions permit.

It followed 80 additional flights operated by national carriers, potentially moving 27,000 passengers. Authorities say future expansion depends on security assessments and safety ratings.

2. UAE Closely Tracks Grocery Prices During Regional Conflicts

Worried about grocery prices? According to the officials, no hoarding is necessary.

UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism tracks the prices of 627 large retailers, which comprise more than 90 per cent of the trade in essential goods throughout the country. The system is also connected to supermarkets and cooperatives, and it registers or records updates in prices in real time.

In case of anomalies in the prices, automatic alerts are sent to the inspection teams. That enables quick verification and remedial action where necessary.

The surveillance system, according to Gulf News, provides a great deal of observation of both supply and price patterns throughout the country by the authorities.

3. Rare Hailstorm Hits Riyadh

Certain regions of Riyadh had a peculiar weather turn on March 3, as even though the skies remained stable in most of the Gulf, there was an anomaly that occurred in Riyadh.

The downpour and hail caught the unawareness of residents who turned their roads and rooftops temporarily. Such transitions are, however, infrequent and occur when the seasonal patterns alter rapidly.

None of the big uproars was reported; however, social media caught fire with videos of ice pellets bouncing off the neighbourhood streets.

4. Qatar Airways Suspends Vietnam Flights With Temporary Airspace Suspension

Qatar Airways has cancelled 13 flights to Vietnam, and this involved 2,565 passengers, as there are still airspace closures. The airline has been providing refunds and waiving fees.

The flights will be temporarily closed until the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority announces that Qatari airspace has been reopened. Another update will be made on March 4.

There are tips that have been issued to travellers on how to monitor flight status on official channels prior to going to the airport.

5. Oman Repatriates Citizens via Land Borders

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman remains functional in streamlining the return of Omani citizens.

With the collaboration of GCC partners and embassies in the international sphere, authorities are organising safe land-border crossings to move home safely. Groups have arrived safely under the approved repatriation plan.

According to the report by Oman Observer, structured coordination is a priority for the governments in the region, in regard to the safety of the citizens.
