For the occasion of International Museum Day, Sharjah Museums Authority is doing something special. Yes, it’s offering free entry to all its museums across Sharjah City, Khor Fakkan and Kalba. This is on May 18th, and it is a part of the four-day celebration, which marks the occasion. This time, the global theme is ‘Museums Uniting A Divided World’.
Sharjah Museum Announces Free Entry For International Museum Day
The Sharjah Museums Authority will be running this programme from May 15th to 18th. It would feature workshops, guided tours, panel discussions, community activities, live music performances, and even a temporary art exhibition. All of these aim to strengthen the cultural dialogue and community engagement. As revealed in a report of the Gulf News, this initiative reflects the cultural vision of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who is a Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Coming to the programme, the authority has designed it to be in such a way that it provides inclusive cultural experiences. This is especially for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Not to mention, with activities presented in multiple languages, these are tailored to different communities, such as those with people with disabilities. Authority has also said that celebrations reinforce its efforts to transform museums into spaces for learning, dialogue, and creativity.
A Slew Of Programmes At The Museums
This celebration will begin on May 15th (which is today) at Sharjah Fort. It will start with guided tours, workshops that is titled ‘Cultural Bridges at Sharjah Fort’. There will also be live musical performances in a family-friendly setting. On May 16th, the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation will also be hosting museum tours. There will also be the ‘Weaving Civilisations’ workshop and a panel discussion by the title of ‘Museums: Bridges of Dialogue and Humanity’
It should be noted that this discussion would bring together representatives from organisations such as the Big Heart Foundation, Friends of Cancer Patients, and Al Serkal Avenue. This is being done to discuss how museums would contribute to cultural understanding, storytelling and humanitarian work.
A Cafe To Be Operated By People With Disabilities
The programme will also include a cafe that would be operated by people with disabilities to highlight the inclusion and community integration through culture. Finally, on May 17th, the Sharjah Maritime Museum will be hosting activities under the theme of ‘A Generation United Through Maritime Heritage’. These would target youth and people with disabilities. The programme, however, doesn’t just enter. There will also be guided tours and a workshop called ‘Seas Unite Us’. Besides this, there will also be a sign language tour and a mobile photography workshop, which has been designed for people with disabilities.

Sharjah Museums Passport Campaign Launched
Finally, Sharjah Authority also plans to launch the ‘Sharjah Museums Passport’ campaign. This would encourage visitors to explore at least five museums, collect their stamps, and share their experiences on social media for a chance to win prizes. This campaign will continue until May 31st, with the public invited to participate in the celebration and explore the museums in the emirate, this will be done through interactive experiences, combining education and entertainment
