Middle East Updates
1. Dubai RTA Completes Work For Implementation Of Dubai Universal Design Code
Dubai RTA recently announced that it has completed the works that are required to implement the Dubai Universal Design Code for People of Determination. This would be across numerous service locations. It includes Customer Happiness Centres, service provider centres, and public transport stations, with the aim of enhancing quality of life.
2. Sheikh Hamdan Visits Jebel Ali Port
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, visited Jebel Ali Port. This visit was to review operations.
3. Sheikha Latifa Inaugurates Art Dubai
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, recently inaugurated the 20th edition of Art Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah. This is ahead of the public opening from May 15th to 17th. It should be noted that the special edition of Art Dubai reflects its evolution alongside the artistic journey of Dubai.
4. Over 33,000 Buses & 5,000 Taxis To Serve Pilgrims During Hajj 1447 AH
As announced by the Transport General Authority, more than 33,000 buses and 5,000 taxis are ready to serve pilgrims during the Hajj season. This is a part of TGA’s integrated operational and organisational efforts. It is to enhance transport service readiness and offer diverse transport services at approved prices.
5. Sail Building Inaugurated In Dubai
A ‘Sail building’ was inaugurated in the Al Jaddaf area. This is the new main headquarters of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. Complete with 110,000 smart sensors, over 1,500 wireless access points, and 3,200 network devices, these would generate over 1.9 million automated control commands daily.
6. Muscat Municipality Bans Barbecue In Public Parks
As revealed by the Muscat Municipality, barbecues and fires are banned in public parks. These are also not allowed on beaches and green spaces, so that there’s public safety. People are only allowed to grill in designated areas that have been equipped by the municipality
7. Dubai RTA Intensifies Illegal Crackdown On Violations
Dubai RTA recently recorded 9,753 cases of random parking and right-of-way violations. These were across the urban areas in 2025. It should be noted that vehicles found in breach of regulations were towed. They were impounded at Lehbab Yard to improve urban appearance.

8. Emirates Expands Starlink-Powered Onboard Internet Service
Emirates, as revealed in a Gulf News report, is expanding its Starlink-powered onboard internet service. This is across more international routes. The aircraft are now operating across destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Americas. As it happens, 33 aircraft have currently been fitted with the technology as of May 14th.
9. Abu Dhabi Police Warns Against Driving With Low Blood Sugar
Abu Dhabi Police recently warned motorists, especially those with diabetes, against driving while experiencing dangerous health conditions. As such, low blood sugar episodes during driving can be quite dangerous. After all, low blood sugar might trigger sudden symptoms, like dizziness, confusion, poor concentration, and delayed reactions.
10. Saudia Offers Discount On Flights To Maldives
A discount of 40% is being offered for flights to the Maldives. As announced by the airline, the promo code is MLE26, and it is only available until May 23rd. As it happens, the travel should be until June 30th, to the destination.
