Mobile vendors are one of the most popular choices for people who are seeking a quick bite. However, when these mobile vans get parked in undesignated areas, they often end up creating traffic and chaos. So, to ensure this does not happen, Saudi Arabia has banned mobile vendors from nine types of locations.

Saudi Arabia Bans Mobile Vendors From Nine Types Of Locations

In a recent Gulf News report, it was mentioned that the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has revised regulations that govern mobile vendor activities. These include food trucks, mobile carts, and other sales outlets. However, they have announced that vendors cannot operate from nine types of locations, which include road intersections, cycle lanes, busy roads, and public parking areas. All of these come under updated regulations that aim to improve safety.

Other Areas Where Mobile Vendors Aren’t Allowed

These regulations have been designed in such a way that they ensure safety while also maintaining a smooth traffic flow. As a result, quality of life is bound to be enhanced with these works. It should be noted that vendors would also not be permitted to operate at intersections, parking spaces for people with disabilities, the central road median, entrances and exits of main roads, bicycle lanes, public parking areas, roads with heavy traffic, and all areas adjacent to traffic lights.

A Move To Organise The Sector

This restriction applies to locations which are designated for police, civil defence, traffic, and ambulance services. Mobile vendors can operate in areas that do not cause obstruction to traffic. These will be monitored by municipalities as part of their inspection activities.

This move is a part of the effort of the municipality to organise the sector. Setting out special operational and technical requirements for mobile vendor activities, the updated regulations also govern their sales outlets, mobile carts, and operating locations.

So the public can also report violations through the hotline number 940 or the Balady app.
