Sharjah has added another public spot where people can actually spend a full evening without getting bored. Sharjah’s Al Majarrah Park has officially reopened after a major redesign, and this time it feels less like a regular neighbourhood park and more like a place where art, community and everyday life all mix.

The park was inaugurated by Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, who toured the revamped space alongside several senior officials and representatives from the Sharjah Art Foundation.

The newly updated park sits in Sharjah’s Al Majarrah area and has been redesigned with a strong cultural touch. A lot of the artwork and design details are inspired by old memories, objects and stories connected to people living in Sharjah. So instead of feeling overly modern or cold, the place still has a familiar side to it.

It’s Beyond Art This Time

For many residents, parks are mostly about space. Somewhere to walk, sit or let children run around for a bit. This redesign seems to understand that.

The park now includes a running track, climbing nets, skating areas and courts for football and basketball. There are also open spaces for gatherings and community activities. Some areas feel built for families, others for teenagers who just want somewhere to hang out in the evening.

Also, the green spaces and water features soften the whole place. Sharjah summers are still Sharjah summers, obviously. But the layout appears more open and breathable than before.

A Space Meant For Everyday People

One thing the project keeps coming back to is community. Not in the corporate slogan kind of way. More in the sense that the park is supposed to be used daily by residents, not admired from a distance.

That said, the cultural side is still important. The park joins a growing list of public art projects supported by Sharjah Art Foundation, including the well-known Rain Room and other outdoor installations around the emirate.

Sharjah has been steadily pushing public art into regular spaces for years now. Parks, squares, old districts. Places where people already spend time. Al Majarrah Park feels like another step in that direction, except this one also gives residents practical things to use every day.

And honestly, that balance may be why the park could end up becoming genuinely popular instead of just visually impressive for a few weeks.
