There’s a particular kind of restaurant that doesn’t just serve food; it sets a mood. This September, Le Guilan opens overlooking South Ridge Park in Downtown Dubai, and it’s arriving with exactly that ambition: to be a place people return to not for a single dish, but for how the whole evening feels.

Downtown Dubai Just Got A Little More Persian, A Little More Poetic

A Name Borrowed From The Caspian Coast

The restaurant takes its name from Gilan, the lush northern Iranian province known for its landscapes and its instinctive generosity towards guests. Le Guilan looks back to the Persian manor houses of the early twentieth century, homes where food, music, art, and long conversation shared the same table, and tries to capture that unhurried, abundant feeling rather than simply recreating it. Founder Amir Asjodi describes it as a deeply collaborative project built to bring Persian cuisine, hospitality, design, art, and music together as one complete experience.

Expect Tradition But Refined In The French Classical

In the kitchen, Chef Houman anchors the menu in recognisable Persian flavours, then brings in classical French technique to sharpen texture, balance and presentation, without disguising the dish underneath. Expect a complimentary welcome of fresh bread and fermented black garlic butter, slow-cooked short ribs finished with a measured touch of dark chocolate jus, and a saffron French toast made with brioche soaked in saffron custard. Above the kitchen pass, shelves of house-made pickles and preserves nod to a tradition of preserving seasonal ingredients that has long defined Persian home cooking.

A Room Built For Long Evenings

The interiors translate that manor-house warmth into a bright, contemporary Downtown setting, with deep textures, a soft palette, and bespoke fixtures designed to move easily from daytime dining and afternoon tea into dinner and the evenings that follow. Art threads through the space, and beyond the dining room, a botanical terrace opens onto South Ridge Park with views towards the Burj Khalifa, offering a greener setting for long lunches and dinners under the city lights.

Conceived as something closer to a cultural house than a conventional restaurant, Le Guilan leans on music to shape its mood throughout the day, building to occasional live sets in the evening, with service that stays warm and personal rather than formal. For a city that has no shortage of Persian kitchens, Le Guilan is betting that atmosphere, not just the menu, is what will bring people back.
