Expats in Qatar now have less time to sort out their travel plans after a residence permit gets cancelled. Qatar authorities have reduced the grace period that was previously available to residents after their permit (residency) cancellation. Instead of having a month to leave the country, people now have just 14 days before penalties begin to apply.
Qatar Gives Expats Just 14 Days To Leave After Residency Cancellation
The update was shared by Captain Ali Ahmed Ali Al Kuwari from the Airport Passports Department during a webinar focused on safe travel procedures.
For many residents, this is a change worth paying attention to. A shorter window means less time to arrange flights, finalise paperwork or wrap up personal matters before departure.
Missing The Deadline Could Attract Penalites
According to the official, anyone who remains in Qatar after the two-week period expires will face a daily fine.
The charge is set at QR10 per day for those who overstay following the cancellation of their residence permit.
While the amount may not seem huge at first glance, those charges can quickly add up if someone delays their departure for several weeks.
That said, the warning wasn’t limited to residents only. Visitors entering Qatar were also reminded to carefully check the dates and conditions listed on their visa stamps.

Visitors Need To Keep An Eye On Their Visa Dates
Tourists and other visitors who stay beyond the validity of their visas could face much steeper penalties. The daily overstay fine for visit visa holders is QR200 per day.
Officials encouraged travellers to double-check their visa information rather than assuming they know how long they can remain in the country.
A Few Things Travellers Can Do Before Flying
Also discussed during the webinar was the importance of checking travel-related details before heading to the airport.
Residents were encouraged to use the Metrash mobile application to review their records, including traffic violations, overstay penalties or any outstanding dues that could affect travel procedures.
For people flying through Hamad International Airport, electronic gates remain available to help speed up immigration checks and reduce waiting times.

New Parents Have An Important Step To Complete
The official also reminded residents about residency procedures for newborn children.
Parents must complete the required documentation and obtain a residence permit for a child born in Qatar under the father’s sponsorship after securing the necessary embassy paperwork.
Without that residency approval, a child may face difficulties re-entering Qatar after travelling abroad. It’s a detail many new parents might overlook, but authorities say it’s an important one to complete early.
