From Kuwait Flight Disruptions To Jazeera’s Egypt Expansion, 5 GCC Travel Updates

Planning a trip around the Gulf anytime soon? There have been quite a few travel updates over the last couple of days. Some flights are still cancelled; a few countries have updated their travel advisories, while one Gulf airline is actually adding more flights. Here’s a quick look at what’s the travel updates across the GCC region.

5 Travel Updates Across GCC

1. Flights Between Kuwait And The UAE Are Still Facing Disruptions

Travellers flying between Kuwait and the UAE should check their flight status before leaving for the airport, as per Gulf News. Emirates has cancelled its Dubai-Kuwait flights on July 20 and 21, while Etihad has suspended selected Abu Dhabi-Kuwait services on July 19 and 20. Air Arabia has also cancelled a few Kuwait routes, although some services have since resumed.  Meanwhile, Kuwait International Airport is currently operating only through Terminals 4 and 5 for Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways. Terminal 1 remains closed, and flight schedules are still limited.

2. Indian Pilots’ Association Wants UAE Flights Suspended

The Airline Pilots’ Association of India (ALPA India) has called upon the Civil Aviation Ministry and the aviation regulator to temporarily halt flights to the UAE and other high-risk Gulf destinations as per MoneyControl. In its July 20 letter, the association cited recent regional tensions, reports of threats against Dubai and Abu Dhabi, changing airspace restrictions and GPS interference. At the moment, this is only a recommendation, and airlines continue to operate based on official aviation authorities’ guidance.

3. Saudi Arabia And Jordan See Fresh Travel Advisories

The United States continues to advise its citizens to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia. Jordan has also received an updated UK travel advisory. The UK is now advising against all but essential travel to Aqaba International Airport after recent missile interceptions over the country.

4. Japan Expands Its Middle East Travel Warning

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has widened its travel advisory for the Middle East. The updated guidance now covers Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Gulf countries, including the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait. Japanese nationals travelling through the region have been advised to stay in touch with family, monitor airline updates and keep alternative travel plans ready in case flights change at short notice.

5. Jazeera Airways Adds More Flights To Egypt

While several airlines are dealing with schedule changes, Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways is expanding its network.

The airline has added 16 extra weekly flights to Egypt, covering Sharm El Sheikh, Alexandria, Sohag and Hurghada. This takes its total Kuwait-Egypt schedule to 126 flights every week.

If you’re travelling across the Gulf over the next few days, it’s worth checking your flight directly with your airline before heading to the airport. Flight schedules can change quickly, so don’t rely on an earlier itinerary. Also, check travel advisories issued by your own country’s foreign ministry, as guidance often differs depending on your nationality.
