Planning To Visit Oman Via Road From The UAE? Here’s All About Routes, Costs, Visa & More

Oman is a beautiful country with many things to explore. Whether we are talking about markets in the capital city of Muscat or the fjords in Musandam, there is truly much to explore. And travelling from the UAE to Oman by road is a budget-friendly option. However, it’s not just budget-friendly, it also offers a scenic ride along the way connecting the two countries.

UAE To Oman By Road

But before you get on the road journey to travel from the UAE to Oman, there are certain things that you need to know. And if you’re taking the bus, then there are specific routes, timetables, costs, and visa requirements that you will want to know before you set off for the journey. If you’re travelling from Sharjah and Al Ain, you can do so with Mwasalat, which is a reliable international bus service that connects the UAE and Oman. Different Routes From UAE To Oman

From Sharjah

Route 203 connects Sharjah to Muscat, and it is being operated in partnership with Sharjah Roads Transport Authority. The bus connects Sharjah with the cities of Sohar and Muscat in Oman. The bus service departs from the Al Jubail Bus Station at 6:30 AM, 3:30 PM, and 8:30 PM. The one-way fare from Sharjah is AED95 per person. While the return journey from Muscat is at 7 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3 PM.

From Al Ain

Another option available is travelling from Al Ain to Muscat. The buses depart from Al Ain Central Bus Station. With the arrival at Mabelah Predestrian Bridge, Muscat. The one-way fare for this is AED80.75 per person. This is called Route 202, and the buses are modern air-conditioned coaches, which come with complimentary Wi-Fi. The standard luggage that is allowed and it includes one checked-in baggage that weighs up to 23 KG, and one piece of hand luggage of up to 7 KG.

From Dubai

Another option available to people who are travelling is that of private coaches. As mentioned by the Gulf News, it runs from Dubai to Muscat. For a one-way trip the average fees could range anywhere from AED90 to AED100 for a one-way trip. The journey can be approximately six to seven hours, depending on border clearance.

From Ras Al Khaimah

You can also travel from Ras Al Khaimah to Musandam in Oman. The one-way trip generally costs AED50. And the journey time is generally about 2.5 hours to 3 hours. With the buses being operated by Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority, these run on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only. The departure timings are 8 AM and 6 PM, and they arrive in Khasab.

What About Visa & Other Formalities?

Coming to the visa, UAE residents can obtain a visa-on-arrival at the border, but they must pay the UAE exit fee and the Oman entry fee. The passport validity must be for six months from your date of entry into Oman. Not to mention, residents must carry their physical Emirates ID, and their UAE residence visa must be fully valid.

The visa eligibility depends on the nationality, profession and residency status. So, make sure to check the specific requirements on the official Oman e-visa platform before you book your trip. Finally, border officials might request to see proof of accommodation, like hotel bookings, a return ticket, or evidence of sufficient funds, for which you must be prepared.
