The programme was first introduced as a 15-day promotion from August 10 to August 25. After that, it would be deployed gradually by grouping 50 tourist locations into 20 clusters. According to reports, the project has been given the “Nirbhaya Scheme” seal of approval by the Central Ministry of Women and Child Development Department.

Additionally, it is being run by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board in partnership with UN Women, the Women and Child Development Department, the Urban Development and Housing Department, and the Police Department. According to sources, the goal of this project is to empower women and raise awareness of their safety to create an environment that is advantageous to them.

As per this development, women will be trained to operate boats and entertain tourists at Omkareshwar, an attraction around 80 kilometres from Indore, while others will be prepared to tell tales and educate tourists about the state’s rich history.

More than a dozen women from nearby communities are reportedly being trained to row boats to transport tourists, according to reports. If everything goes according to plan, the first group of certified boat captains will likely start working in the next two months.

This is a part of the state tourist board’s initiative called “Safe Tourism Destination for Women.” It aims to train women in a variety of occupations such as hospitality, security, driving, photography, self-defence, and more. The campaign aims to transform MP’s tourism hotspots into places that welcome women.

Sheo Shekhar Shukla, the principal secretary for MP Tourism, stated that they have initiated the process of making the locations safe and welcoming for tourists. He continued that they are also training 40,000 women in and around 50 destinations on skills of self-defence to make our destinations safe for women travellers.
