Two Killed Near Dadar Flower Market In Mumbai
Riyanshu Amar Vandre is an engineering student from Shah & Anchor Kutchhi Engineering College in Chembur. If reports are to go by, he is 21 years old and was driving a Mahindra XUV 700 at high speed along the northbound lane of Senapati Bapat Marg in Parel.
For reasons yet to be determined, Vandre’s vehicle suddenly veered across into the southbound lane, causing a catastrophic head-on collision with an oncoming taxi. The impact was so severe that the front half of the taxi was completely crushed.
The SUV violently somersaulted multiple times before striking the flyover railings and coming to a halt. Both occupants of the taxi, Shankar Aiyya Goliwada and Rekha Manu Jhavmuriya, were killed instantly. Goliwada, the 65-year-old driver, was from Goregaon’s MHADA colony, and his passenger, 55-year-old flower vendor Jhavmuriya, was from Chinchpokli.
Other Details About This Unfortunate Accident
In a cruel twist of fate, Jhavmuriya had boarded the taxi mere minutes before the accident. She was travelling to her flower shop in Saat Rasta, Mahalaxmi, where her son Amit was waiting for her. The timing was particularly poignant as she had been preparing for increased business during the Gudi Padwa festival scheduled for the following day.
All three individuals involved in the crash were trapped in their respective vehicles and had to be extricated by members of the public and fire brigade personnel. While both taxi occupants were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, Vandre survived the crash.
Police detained Vandre and took him to Sion Hospital for medical tests to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The resident of Tata Power Colony in Matunga faces serious charges pending the outcome of the investigation.
The tragedy has cast a shadow over festival preparations and left two families devastated in its wake.
