The Mumbai Coastal Road Project, which is one of the most talked-about infrastructure projects in the city, recently witnessed its very first accident. A car ran into the tunnel wall near the Marine Drive exit. Fortunately, though, no loss of lives or injuries were reported in the incident. There was a brief delay owing to traffic congestion. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular accident.

Mumbai Coastal Road Sees Its Very First Accident

According to an article which was recently published by the Mid-day, this particular accident took place on April 4, Thursday around 2:30 PM. A car, which was going at a high speed, ended up crashing into the wall of the tunnel.

Following the crash, the car spun around and another car crashed into it. If reports are to go by, no injuries or loss of lives happened during the accident. This marks the first-ever accident on the newly inaugurated Mumbai Coastal Road.

The car crashed into the southbound tunnel near the Marine Drive exit. Soon after the accident, officials from the Mumbai Police as well as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC rushed to the spot to investigate the matter.

About This Major Infrastructure Project In The City

The first car had suffered quite a lot of damage and was towed away. The project was inaugurated on March 11, 2024. As per reports, it witnessed traffic of around 16,000 vehicles on the very first day of its operation.

The coastal road stretches across a total of 53 kilometres till Dahisar. It promises to help save time and fuel in travelling. It was partially inaugurated and is open between 8 AM to 8 PM from Monday to Friday.

Since the road is still incomplete, the remaining work is completed during the weekends. It is estimated that the next phase will be inaugurated by May this year.
